My firstborn-the-engineer quite frankly revels in gadgets, widgets, and things that morph into other things that may be altogether useless but are nevertheless interesting. Any day now I expect him to send me a box filled with little red strings which, when snapped with sufficient force, will create enough electricity to power the house. Or perhaps he will make good on his promise of a perpetual motion machine that not only bakes bread, fits in my purse, translates Chinese into Patagonian, and stores 13,562,380,451 of my favorite tunes, but can also be used as a reflective device by which to signal planes flying overhead in the event I am ever lost in the great woods. All I really want him to do is clean his stuff out of the garage so that we can find the back wall without danger to life, limb, or radiation limits.

Sigh.
