Hello Nurses and Nurses-to-be!
I found this forum today and thought it was great! It provides so much beneficial information and support-thanks to YOU ALL
I graduated with my BA in Liberal Studies, completed my teaching credential, and have been a substitute teacher/impact teacher for the past 2 years. The school systems and budget currently doesn't look so well in CA and will take time to rebuild, so I decided to go back to school for nursing. With our current economy, I cannot wait for my own classroom, knowing that when I am a temporary teacher I still can be let go, and figured it was time for a change and growth.
I've always been exposed to the medical field growing up and enjoyed it, besides me being sick. I've had asthma since I was little (many doctor visits, hehe), my mom, aunts and sister are nurses, my other sis and aunt are med techs, and my uncle is a vet. Whenever somebody was sick or in the hospital or there were medical conversations at home, I took great interest in the terminology and longed to know more about what was going on.
I considered nursing before, but was scared and didn't think I could do it. But, now I have mustered up more self-confidence and courage and am ready to do it

I figured that I survived the intense teaching credential program and can survive nursing school. Plus, I can still have teaching options with nursing (teach nursing, teach/train new nurses/student nurses, etc.).
Luckily, I have taken most prerequisite courses years ago, when I thought I was heading the nursing/med field direction, and only have 2 prereq classes to take next semester. Hopefully, I will enter the Accelerated Bachelor Nursing Program (for students with a bachelors already) in Fall 2010.
I am excited about my new plan, career and growing with this forum! Good luck to all of you and sorry for the loong intro, hehe.
