Sal, most places allow them if you buy the ones without the "holes" in them.
If you can't wear Crocs...start begging the powers that be now...your legs will thank you later.

Since I'm a student we are require to wear light blue scrubs with PLU School of Nursing embroidered on the chest. We had to buy our own scrubs and lab coat as well at the beginning of our first semester in the program.

I think thats out of order - the "uniform" should be provided by the hospital as its a part of your "personal protective equipment " You wouldnt be expected to buy your own surgical gloves / masks / aprons etc, surely, and these too are PPE !

I think that UK nurses would be shocked at the things that Nurses in other countries e.g. USA are expected to pay for. We take so much for granted and what is more aren't a bit grateful for it!

I think you are right Julie, I am responsible for ordering supplies etc for theatre and every year I buy the staff new theatre clogs.
Being aware of budgets etc, I tell them to order a pair marked £20 or less - ( before VAT and Postage ) By the time these are added, each pair could be about £ 30 - £35. Multiply by 20 staff and it becomes a tidy sum.! Several of the staff pull a face when I say NO to their whims for "pretty multicoloured unsuitable shoes". If they had to buy them themselves perhaps they wouldnt moan so much. There is no cost for laundry either !

We are moving to a newly built hospital and administration is requiring nurses to wear dark blue uniforms. LVN's will wear the same uniforms as RN's. This does not differentiate the level of education and licensure to patients/clients. The main question is: who is making the decisions with regard to mandating uniforms for PROFESSIONALS? We nurses are famous for just doing what we're told...Personally, I am working toward becoming an advanced nurse practitioner for many reasons, one of which is being tired of performing so many CNA duties that I don't have enough time to do what I've been educated to do...assess, plan, teach and implement, etc. It's frustrating.

Where I am going the students have to wear royal blue with the school crest on the chest stating that we are a student. But with certain placements they require other colors.
