This might be a silly question for most of you but what is the advantage of buying a domain when you can blog for free on blogspot?

Ooooo, one this non-nurse finally knows the answer to!
![]() The advantage of buying a domain and blogging there is that you own your site, not Google. That means you aren't limited by what they say you can and cannot do. Your own domain also means that you get your own, custom email address like me@myownwoman.com. The advantage of Blogger is that you just blog and everything else is taken care of for you. No hosting problems, no questions about how to install/use WordPress, etc. If you ever want to make real money from your blog (or at least have a sizeable audience), I'd definitely go with your own domain. If you just blog for fun, though, might as well stay on Blogger. |

Oh, and Kim could answer this one for you real well from the perspective of someone who has moved from Blogger to her own domain.

GoDaddy may be cheap, but I'm sorry, their ads are completely offensive to me (very sexist, as well as abilist).
And then I read this: http://nodaddy.com/ I'd say I wouldn't trust them...

Blogging is a way of life for me--started out 8/06 and keep adding them. My main blog is Nursehealers. I am a guest blogger on some "nings" I belong to--a social networking site.
I have a wordpress blog, a "powerful intentions" blog, a few lenses, and I add posts to "notes" in FaceBook which adds up to be a blog, as well. Also write regularly for a few political blogs, mostly about Single Payer Health Delivery. And it doesn't take me long--just sweep through and add stuff. Am just about to buy another domain from Go-Daddy--to write a sales letter and sell an e-book from that address. Nursing Career Transformation is my only web address at this time. I just think it's awesomely creative. I highly recommend it.

I bought my domain name through yahoo. I've always been happy with it.
Well, for all I know it could end up going through Go Daddy.

I have been blogging for about 4 years now. I was the guide to nursing.about.com until they recently closed down that site in favor of a health careers site. So now I have my own blog and a new site for all that content that I had written for about.com.
I also write for Suite101.com about the health field in general, but I like having my own blog best of all because I can write in my own style and no pressure to write or not write in certain time frames.
