Default My Blog

I started out Blogging in RN school. I thought it would help me vent...which it did....and it was interesting enough to keep people reading. I turned out to get quite a few readers and met other SNs on their blogs. Not to mention I got a lot of encouragement and advice from the nurse bloggers who came by. It was great...and still is.

I've been on Blogger which is free and easy to use and manage. I changed my Template (The look of my blog) by playing with the HTML code by trial and error. I don't know HTML code but I just picked one of the templates, changed my picture, and looked up the color codes online to change the scheme. I kept hitting preview to see if it looked right....until it did.

Also, when writing about patients, I was sure not to mention specifics or any identifing info. Got to keep the privacy.

Hope this helps, we can't have too many Nurse bloggers out there!

Your blog rocked! And I'm glad to see you back! Prior to hooking up with Shane, I did what you did - trial and error. I picked up a lot of html knowledge just reading the template and then copying different sections. It has come in handy even though I am not longer on Blogger.

Has Blogger gotten any more reliable? When I first started two years ago it would drive me nuts. I still remember hosting Grand Rounds with about 67 entries and having to stay up all night to RE-do it when Blogger blew it! Ugh!

And have you thought about purchasing your own domain name? I did that a few years ago and it is very inexpensive - only about $4.50 per month via enomcentral.com!

Youch!! Whoever you use for a web guy should have told you to switch over to GoDaddy. Domains are only $9/year there.

Ah, well when it is time to renew I shall visit GoDaddy! I actually "own" more than just emergiblog.com, I also picked up

emergiblog.net
emergiblog.org
scaredtohealth.com
kmcallister.com
emergiblog.edu (I think, I'll have to check)

Didn't want anyone taking my name! : D

Wow, I just read emergiblog.com and jojodow, your blog is awesome! Very organized and I love the posts! It'll take me a while to read it all though, haha.

GoDaddy is a great and cheap place to buy domains, I really like GoDaddy. I think that's the #1 choice for everyone when they want to purchase a domain.

Hopefully we'll see more people posting his/her blogs on this thread!

I also have a few blogs and I use wordpress. I was able to purchase my domain name and hosting for only $15 a year and they do all the work setting it all up. I used to get paid to write but I like blogging MUCH more...I get to say whatever the heck I want.

Very smart on taking your name, Kim. I, too collect domain name like some collect shoes. Here's a few of mine besides pixelrn.com:

orientedX3.com
goodtailbadtail.com
nursepixel.com
pixelnurse.com
superpixelplus.com (Don't ask me why I picked this one. It was suggested to me by one of the registrar sites and I thought it was too cute to pass up. See, domain names really are like shoes).

One of the hardest things for me was coming up with a name. I didn't want a cute name, because that doesn't match my personality. I'm afraid though, that the name I came up with may be just a bit obscure...but that is part of my personality

Now I just have to get all the ideas I have floating around in my head down into posts. Maybe if I stopped posting here I'd do better, some of my posts here are probably long enough to be a blog post!

Oh, and uh, then there's Chapter One of my dissertation waiting on me....

I have been blogging for seven years!!! I started on livejournal, moved to Xanga, then .Mac before finding Wordpress.com.

Shortly after, I bought nursesean.com domain. I can't describe why, but it just feels GREAT to have your own domain. It's like the difference between renting and owning a house I guess.

I'm aware that godaddy is incredibly cheap. However, I am using Bluehost for $6.95 a month. I love their services and functionality. Plus they are set up to work extremely well with wordpress.org

I also planned to start a podcast again, so I wanted lots of bandwidth/storage. So far, the podcast hasn't appeared (but the desire is starting to bubble up).

I 100% recommend starting with worpress.com as a blog. It is much more flexible than blogger. Plus, I get so frustrated with blogger because often you have to be a member to comment on blogs (depending on user's settings).

Find out if you love blogging before spending the money on a domain/host.
