Hey everyone. So for the people with a blog, I was just wondering how you spread the word about it and get traffic to your blog. Do you post the URL on forums, have the URL in your signature, etc.?

No clue, but I'm starting here!

5. Word of mouth
6. Publish articles both online and in print media
7. Press Releases
8. Exchange links with other related blogs
9. Open an account at places like MyBlogLog, Digg, Technorati, etc.
10. Utilize other networking sites such as LinkedIn, Ryze, etc.
11. Create a page at MySpace, Squidoo, etc

Mine is a personal blog, though, and to maintain complete anonymity, I have to be slightly more cautious. For example, I don't publish in my signature line in my email. It all depends on your audience and whatnot.

2. Post often
3. Link to blogs you enjoy

and basically, Lather, rinse and repeat!

It takes a lot of work to promote a blog. But, something I HAVE noticed is that some people will have blogs that just naturally attract readers. Just like famous people have that "it" factor, some blogs have it as well. It's an unteachable, indescribable quality that just makes some blogs jump to fame.

My blog does NOT have this it factor. I've been blogging for about seven years and have a fraction of the traffic of some blogs that have been around for months. But, I just laugh about it and remind myself that I blog for ME and not other people. If you're blogging only to increase traffic, I believe you're doing it for the wrong reason.

For blogs that HAVE reached fame, check out http://emergiblog.com or http://dooce.com watch them and see if you can figure out how they did it...and try to do the same
