Nursing Jobs.org (http://www.nursingjobs.org/) is sponsoring the Official Launch Contest for Nursing Voices by giving away not just one but two brand new iPhones (http://www.iphone.com/)*.

http://images.apple.com/iphone/wifistore/images/hero20070905.png
The first iPhone will go to the one who scores the highest point total from Sep. 15 through Oct. 15, according to this point system:
Every post here on Nursing Voices earns you 1 point. The posts must be worthwhile, too, not just one-liners like "I agree!" or "Cool!" Posts like that will not be counted. (Likewise, remember the Rules and Guidelines (http://www.nursingvoices.com/showthread.php?t=2) for being part of Nursing Voices.)
Every blog post you make about the contest on an established blog with a link back to Nursing Voices earns you 10 points.
Linking to the contest sponsor (Nursing Jobs.org) in the blog post earns you an additional 10 points. Also, because it's most important for you to actually be a part of Nursing Voices and not just blog about it, you must be within the top 25 posters during the contest period for your blog points to count. In addition, blog posts can only count for a maximum of 25% of your overall point total.

So what about the second iPhone? That one will go to the one who refers the winner. On the forum registration form, there's a field for the member name who referred you Nursing Voices, so make sure you tell people to include your member name in the Referral field when they sign up!

Let the contest begin!! :ridinghorse:

* Winners can also choose a comparable iPod if they prefer that over an iPhone.

What an awesome contest! Thank you so much for having a contest like this. :)

I just blogged about this contest here:

http://wanderingmindd.blogspot.com/2007/09/2-iphones.html

I hope to see a lot of people joining this! I'm new here and so far, I'm loving it! Sadly, the iPhone is not avaliable in Canada so if I win, I might have to choose the iPod Touch. ;)

Thanks, Jess! I actually didn't make the header...another blog reader made it for me. He totally suprised me with it and I think he did a really good job. Look forward to hearing from you (and seeing you around here, too!)

Hi Shane, I have a question:

Does the blog post have to be only about the contest or can we include a mention of the contest in a blog post about something other than the contest?

:hmmmm:

Shane

It has to be a blog post specifically about the contest. Additionally, just like with repeated, brief posts here on NV that are of little value, your blog posts need to be worthwhile. Even if you're willing to spam your users with repeated posts about the contest, we won't be willing to count them all toward your total :D We'll definitely be taking into account the spirit of the rules and not just the letter.

Should I rewrite my post about this contest? I'm not too sure if my blog post is "worthwhile" now...it's just a post that's straight to the point...

Oh, and I'm very sorry if my blog is kind of sad and plain. :( I'm not too much of a blogger and I've been deleting posts, deleting blogs and whatnot over the last few months...I know my blog isn't as great and interesting as PixelRN's or Caroline's...

I second Jess's question. Should I rewrite my posts about the contest? I originally wanted to highlight some jobs on nursingjobs.org and some of the forum discussions on nursingvoices.com like this:

http://www.pixelrn.com/2007/09/a-friendly-reminder.html

Do you consider this worthwhile?
Do you consider this spamming my readers?

Please advise... Thanks!

That's certainly a clever way of doing it. If the vast majority of a member's points ended up coming from blog posts, though, we might end up having to give more weight to posts on the forum. Right now I think we're fine, though.

I put my plug in at my website,www.myownwoman.blogspot.com (The Perpetual Search for Personal Nirvana) (see 9-21-07 post) but I'm not quite sure it's what you are looking for. Doesn't matter, I liked writing the blog anyway. Hopefully, it will send more nurses down to Nursing Voice.

Geez, I kept plugging away with each post. I'm gonna have to get more creative. :banghead:

I can at least say I'm enjoying this contest immensely and the interaction so far!

So you would change the rules of the contest after the fact? That doesn't seem fair.

:hmmmm:

Just to avoid any problems at the end, I have gone ahead and amended the rules to better clarify intent.

We had already stated clearly that "it's most important for you to actually be a part of Nursing Voices and not just blog about it," so I also added that not more than 25% of your overall points can come from blog posts just to put more structure around that.
In addition, I also added that the blog must be already be established so that people don't just create a blog in order to earn points.Any blog posts you've made up until now that don't meet these conditions will count toward your final total, however, since these guidelines are new. We just won't count any new ones going forward.

Jess

Thanks for the clarification Shane. I think people holding a contest can most definitely change the rules at any time. However, I think I'm just going to post on the forums and not on a blog now. I really like contributing to the forum and a blog post is getting kind of repetitive. I mean, there's no point in just copy and pasting the same 3 sentences on every post. At least on the forum there's a wider range of discussion/content.

I have to ask... Do you have to live in the US to win this fantastic contest? Or are those of us who live just to the north of you able to try to win too?

(I gotta know before I get my hopes up. :curtsey:)

Great question LittleBird and welcome to Nursing Voices! :) I'm from Canada too! I'm pretty sure this contest is open to anyone living anywhere since it didn't state in the rules. However, I guess we'll just wait until Shane answers your question. Again, welcome to Nursing Voices and I hope to see you around.

Oh, yeah. It's definitely open to everyone. Not sure if the iPhone will work up there (or across the pond, for those who live closer to Julie), but you can always take the iPod option if it won't.

They are due to be launched here soon, as the network provider has been announced recently. Sadly as a Forum Guide I can't win (luckily for the rest of you!):aetsch:

After a month of posting, it's astonishing how close the contest is right now. Posts made in the next few hours could easily end up being the deciding factor.

I see this is a super old thread from 2007. Any chance of running a similar giveaway here in 2016? My iPhone is in need of an upgrade! (and I'm on a student budget) :call:
