Hello, posting on behalf of my girlfriend who is looking at doing a full time PgDip Nursing Studies in Adult or Mental Health Nursing. I have used the bursary calculator at http://www.nhspa.gov.uk/sgu/ and have established that my girlfriend would be able to recieve 6372.00 bursary.

She currently lives with parents, but would she recieve any more should she live on her own? Is there any further funding available? She has no children and I would imagine her parents would be above any pay 'threshold' for means tested funding.

Any help or advice on this would be greatly appreciated!

As far as I know the bursary is not means tested. But I don't think there is anything else you can claim. Unlike student loans you don't have to pay it back thought. I will see if I can find out any more for you in the next day or two.

Some more resources for you:

Unison (http://www.unison.org.uk/healthcare/students/pages_view.asp?did=4566)
This is a union that lots of health workers including stidents belong to. It has lots of links about bursaries.

Also the NHS student bursary website (http://www.nhsstudentgrants.co.uk/)

Good luck, let us know how your girlfriend gets on

Wow - you get paid while you are in school in England? We need that here in the US!

No, let me be more specific....I need it here in the US!

Sadly you and I can't get it. It is designed for those studying to become RNs. Healthcare diplomas are the only things that you get a bursary, if you do any kind of degree course you have to take a loan. Even so, you would need to have support elsewhere, or a job.
