Ive had all types of bosses over my thirty-year career in nursing. The vast majority of bosses have been supportive of my efforts to deliver topnotch quality care to my patients. Regrettably, things are changing in my workplace. I no longer feel supported by my boss, or by hospital administration.

Question: As a charge nurse, it is your responsibility to make sure the unit runs smoothly so everyone receives good patients. What do when your boss is trying to undercut your efforts to deliver high quality patient care?

If my boss would start questioning my decisions as charge, I would tell her that to protect my license, I no longer wish to do charge anymore.

I realize some people might financially depend on the differential, but... not worth it to me. If my boss started questioning my actions as a staff nurse, (ie, I'm giving great care and she is not supporting it) then I suppose I'd start looking for another job.

If you are a charge nurse, you have to know that your manager has your back. If not - adios! But..you also have charge nurse experience under your belt for the resume! ;)

Not getting support from a superior is a real complicated issue. A charge nurse must be given independence to do her job. well, Is it a good idea to voice out to him your thoughts about this issue? Maybe a good communication will help
