Default Playing Sport

I realize that we are all very busy nurses. But do any of you play sports. I would like to know what you play and how often you get to play. How did you find out about it too.

PJ, the tension between the ER and the Xray department was running high because of the new implementation of the Trauma Alert/Team in our hospital. I thought how ridiculous this was and tried to think of a way to get us back on track. So.......
.... Without the knowledge of the ER (which is where I work) and the Xray; I posted colorful signs, one in ER and one in Xray challenging them to a game of friendly slowpitch softball. It caught on like wild fire and the talk of the town was about the game almost 24/7 in both departments. The "powers that be" came to me and asked if he could buy our department shirts, sort of as a sponsor. I told him "sure" as long as he purchased the other team shirts as well. He agreed AND he and the other head honcho became our "official" umpires.

The rest I did. I bought the game softballs and score book. I had all the other stuff from coaching softball for years. I booked the park (which was donated for free once I turned on the ole "My Own Woman" charm. One of the doctors even donated a "ridiculous" looking traveling trophy that the winners get to display for the year.

The game went off better than my wildest dreams. I had a employee from the ED sing the national anthem and the hairs stood up on the back of your arms she was THAT good.

We had a blast and afterwards we did a little partying on our own. The game, which was played in late August, is still being talked about. Other departments now are talking about getting up teams to challenge the winners (which I might add was the ER) and make a bid for the trophy.

The tension between ER and Xray? Well......let's just say it's faded quite a bit.

Shopping!

I used to bowl in a league - had an average of 127.

Right now I like to do Jazzercise - when and if I can stay awake long enough in the mornings to go!

Funny that KimRN. I used to go to group fitness classes in the morning and there was a nurse who used to go as well! Mind you it was not Jazzercise, but BodyPump.

Does chasing after a 14 month old count as a sport?

I'm glad I re-read your post - I thought you said "Body BUMP".
