Default Healing from Trauma

I am wondering how any of you transition from a really bad trauma experience. Recently we had a trauma code on a child not much older than my own which was gruesome to say the least. Unfortunately to compound the problem the child was a colleague's little one. I am haunted by the sights and sounds, and had to go back to my regular ICU patients after the trauma code was called. (Our facility has a trauma team and a trauma ICU nurse goes to these) Usually trauma does not affect me as much as this one did, and we did not have time (nor do we ever) have a debriefing or a time to care for ourselves. Thankfully the child survived, but will be altered the rest of his/her life. Any advice on how to cope with this....

Thanks.
