Arrow How many male students are in your year?

I think Nursing Voices should create a thread for "Male Nursing!"

My question is how many male students are in your year? I'm a second year nursing student at university and for my year, there are about 15 male students. They are the most awesome guys ever and I talk to every one of them! I hope to definitely see more men going into nursing over the next couple of years!

Our guys are a really great group, and very diverse in terms of age, previous occupation...there's so much knowledge there. They are some of the best students, too. I'd say in our class of 115, there's maybe 10 or 15? Quite a huge minority but it's nice to have a little balance when all the girls are on their periods at the same time!

Hahaha, that's hilarious Caroline! I totally know what you're saying! Some of the guys in my year are so smart and knowledgable. It's quite scary but kind of awesome at the same time! They know so much and it's great just sitting down and chatting with them once in a while.

Cool Its raining men?

In our class of 100 we had about 12. Now in the class of 80 we have about 8. The biggest concern for the female students is that half of them are gay! Never mind there is always the male med students/physio/social work/Occupational Terrorists!

Now that is a stereotype that I hope one day will be gone. Not all guys in nursing are gay! Awful, awful stereotype in my opinion, but it is still a quite popular stereotype, ugh.

In my class of 60, we initially had about 8 or 9. When we graduated we had 5.

Only one of them was gay.

They were all great guys and fit in with us girls fabulously!

Red face

This is a late message, but of the 56 people in my class, 6 of them are guys, and they haven't quit yet. 2 of them are gay, which goes with the (stupid) stereotype, but all of them have great hearts and will make excellent nurses.

Hmmmm.....Should we wonder how many female nurses are lesbians? Do homosexuals make good nurses or bad nurses? Do they prey on their patients?

This just sooooo shouldn't be an issue.

Default Not all of us are gay!!!

In my nursing class of 60, there was only 3 of us guys... All of us were straight, for what it is worth..

Strangely, one of the three guys got all the way through school, passed NCLEX, started working at our hospital, and then left the profession. All that time invested, and he left after 3 months!!!

As for the gay stereotype, 1/3 of the nurses in our ED are male... and, yes, almost exactly half of them are gay...
